Back to School Checklist from a Recycled YearCheer Box

Back to School Checklist from a Recycled YearCheer Box

It’s that time of year again—back to school! As a mom of four, I know how hectic the start of the school year can be. This year, my kids are starting 1st grade, 4th grade, 7th grade, and 10th grade. The beginning of the school year feels a bit easier this time around, especially compared to last year when we had kids starting Elementary, Middle, and High School all at once. Thankfully, the first few days have been smooth sailing as we settle back into our routines.

But as any parent knows, mornings can be a challenge, especially when everyone’s trying to get out the door on time. That’s why I wanted to share a fun and practical idea to make your back-to-school routines more engaging for your kids: a DIY Morning Routine Checklist using your old YearCheer box!

#### Why a Morning Routine Checklist?

A morning routine checklist is a fantastic way to help your kids stay organized and on track. It’s a visual reminder of what needs to be done, making it easier for them to follow their routine independently. Plus, it’s a creative project that turns an ordinary morning into something special.

#### How to Create Your DIY Morning Routine Checklist

My sister-in-law recently made the most adorable Morning Routine Checklist for my niece using her YearCheer box, and it was such a hit! She cut out the pieces, attached velcro strips, and created a checklist that her daughter now loves to use every morning. You can see her creation [here].

If you’re not as artistically inclined as she is (I’m definitely not!), don’t worry! I’ve put together a printable sheet with all the icons you need to make your own checklist. You can download it [here].

Here’s how you can make your checklist:

1. **Cut Slits in Your YearCheer Box**: Start by cutting slits into your YearCheer box to create slots for each task icon along the fold in your box.  Make the top of the box higher so you can see the Morning Routine Heading.
2. **Paste the Task Icons**: Use the icons from the printable sheet or create your own to represent each morning task.
3. **Add Velcro Strips**: Attach velcro strips (#affiliate link) to the bottom of each task so they can fold the task up when completed.

And just like that, you’ve got a fun, interactive way for your kids to stay on top of their morning routine!

#### What’s Next for YearCheer?

We’re so excited for the upcoming holiday season, and our next box is Halloween 🎃! It renews for subscribers on September 10 and ships by September 20. This year, Halloween is so packed with fun that we had to make a bigger box!

If you’re interested in joining our Holiday Membership, now is the perfect time! We have a limited number of spots available, and once they’re filled, we’ll be closing the cart for new members. Don’t miss out on all the holiday magic we’ve got in store!

#### A Final Thought

It’s hard to believe how fast time flies. When I started YearCheer, my oldest was just a 4th grader, and now she’s taller than me and almost ready to start driving! With only three years left with all six of us living under one roof, I’m leaning into making new traditions and soaking up every moment.

I hope your back-to-school season is off to a great start. Here’s to a school year filled with new routines, fun traditions, and lots of memories!
